Finnish Society for Music Therapy
Finnish Society for Music Therapy (FSMT) was founded and registered in 1973. The aim of the society is to progress professional music therapy activities in Finland. The society promotes non-registered regional sub-committees around Finland. Membership of the Society is divided in four: professional -, advocacy-, student- and community membership. The membership benefits and fees vary depending on the form of the membership.

information and co-operation
The important task of FSTM is to share information about music therapy and its possibilities national wide. FSTM co –operates with other health, care-, social- and educational organizations. FSMT is also a member of World Federation of Music Therapy and European Music Therapy Confederation and is in contact with foreign music therapy organizations.

publications
FSMT is publishing the journal 'Musiikkiterapia' (Music Therapy). The professional journal is following scientific progress in the music therapy branch and demonstrating music therapy work in practice. The Society also publishes books and booklets in the music therapy field. Publications can be ordered at the internet.

professional aims
FSMT gives declarations and propositions/representations in the music therapy domain/field.  The Society keeps register of professional music therapists and upholds a guildforum for professional music therapists. Also counsellor services are available in cases with broad professional relevance. FSMT has an ethical commission which is on hand for as well to professionals, clients as other facets.

education and training
Two national seminars can be considered as the backbone of the FSMT. Three day educational meetings consist of visitor lectures as well as music therapy clinicians introducing their work. Also the scientific part is largely presented. Social activities during the seminars especially in the late evening play a crucial role for the participants. FSMT has a representation in “SUMUKE” (commission to progress the music therapy training in Finland) which task is among all to develop common criteria for music therapy training in Finland and to co-operate with different facets which organize music therapy training.
